I’ve forgotten about the lure of Stonesthrow (the property my grandparents own on Gabriola Island, and where I am currently staying). When at Stonesthrow, all one wants to do is lay in the sun and read, occasionally munching on tortilla chips and drinking unusual fizzy concoctions like grapefruit mango cordial.

I spent a good portion of the day lounging in the tea house (see left) reading Miranda July. I’m not sure how I feel about her and her writing- but that is a story for another day.

Last night at dinner a local fisherman dropped by the house with fresh rockcod and prawns. I love the way the prawns look, all pink and delicate with bulging littleĀ  black beady eyes. Prawn softie, anyone?

I’m very excited to be leaving for beautiful Gabriola Island this weekend! It’s one of my favorite vacation spots, and my family has been going there since I can remember.

In preparation I’ve been cutting like crazy, as I hope to spend much of my days embroidering wings on songbirds while relaxing in the sun! Tons of songbirds have begun their lives, as have owls in some awesome new patterns.

Don’t the sheets of felt look so great all arranged by colour? I have this strange tendency to want to arrange everything by colour, even hand-fulls of skittles! Keep an eye out, I’ve got some wonderful new fabrics to show you.
